Andrea Nicholls
Born the 30th of November 1938, in Vielle Case, Dominica to Lewis (d) and Disnie Royer
(d), Andrea Nicholls, was called home to be with the Lord on December 15, 2021.
Andrea was the youngest of four children. At the young age of nine, her mother passed
and her aunt, Mildred Bedneau Royer (d), and her father’s first cousin, Ian Royer (d),
took her to Barataria, Trinidad, where she thrived in a loving home with her beloved
cousins. Andrea attended and graduated from Emmanuel Secondary School in
Barataria. Shortly after on January 2, 1958, she matriculated in the Port of Spain
General Hospital Nursing School. She graduated in July 1961 and completed midwifery
studies just twelve months later. She then was dispatched to Sangre Grande General
Hospital for six months where she perfected her skills as a registered nurse.
From the late 1960’s through the early 1990’s, Andrea worked in the New York hospital
system as a registered nurse in the ICU and cancer units. She was diagnosed with
diabetes in her late sixties and was very conscientious about the management of her
chronic condition. She returned home to Trinidad and again worked at the Port of Spain
General Hospital and later at the Adventist Community Hospital in Cocorite.
Andrea was a big advocate of healthy eating and exercise. She loved to garden and
found great pleasure in any activity that involved seeing family and friends, especially
during the Carnival season.
She is survived by her two daughters and son, along with a multitude of grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, other family members and a host of friends around the world.
